Step into the wacky and wonderful world of the King Flashypants series by Andy Riley, where laughter reigns supreme and silliness takes centre stage.
In this uproarious series, readers are introduced to 9-year-old King Edwin, an eccentric and endearing ruler whose antics and escapades keep the preteens chuckling from cover to cover. This king, who wears regal clothes and has a spangly, shiny crown with mini crowns on each spike, enjoys going on quests, helping his friends, inventing things, collecting burps, eating delicious food, and having a good time.
My kids and I have read two books from the series and quite enjoyed this quirky series filled with humour, hilarity, and heart. The characters’ funny names, rib-tickling descriptions, and hilarious illustrations add to the fun and laughter. Here is a short description of the book we read.
In “King Flashypants and the Evil Emperor,” King Edwin is put against the dorky Evil Emperor Norbison and his villainous schemes. One of the standout moments is the depiction of the “good” and “bad” castles, brimming with unexpected details and surprises that will leave readers in stitches. And let’s not forget the Evil Emperor’s distinctive laugh, “Foo Hoo Hoo Hoo,” a humorous touch that adds to the book’s charm.
“King Flashypants and the Creature From Crong” continues the hilarity. King Edwin Flashypants and his subjects are attempting to stop their sugar addiction by eating the necessary 50 veggies each day. When King Edwin learns that a creature known as the Voolith is frightening the people in Crong’s Wilderness, he swears to defeat it. This allows the resurfacing of his former foe, Emperor Nurbison. The book is as goofy as they come. The zany story delights the former fans.
One of the series highlights is Riley’s witty and irreverent writing style, entertaining readers of all ages. Each book is packed with laugh-out-loud moments, clever wordplay, and unexpected twists.
So, if your kids are at a stage where they are enjoying the 13-storey Tree House series or the Captain Underpants series, they will love this series. The silly madcap adventures are just right to entice the reluctant readers.
