The Pause by Monika Singh

The Pause

Monika Singh offers a comforting collection of stories that dive deep into the messiness of life. These stories are like snapshots of real people dealing with real struggles, capturing the ups and downs we all face. It’s like watching a flower grow on cracked pavement—unexpected but beautiful in its own way.

“One and a Half Minutes” and “Tangerine” are my favourite stories. While the former explores what happens after a terrible event, showing how two people cope with the chaos it leaves behind, the latter underscores the healing abilities of a feline companion.

The central theme of most stories is melancholic but uplifting. Like being caught in a sudden downpour without an umbrella—unsettling but also strangely peaceful. The tales emphasize the importance of connection and resilience; that even when life throws curveballs, the strength to live another day can be found in each other.

Singh’s writing is heartfelt and relatable, making it easy for readers to connect with her characters and their struggles.

A touching read that reminds us to cherish every moment and hold on to hope, even when things seem bleak. Needless to say, it leaves a lasting impression, urging us to embrace the beauty and fragility of life.

Highly recommended if you’re looking for instant mood boosters!
